ReticoloFX 156

ReticoloFX is our latest fully automated trading strategy. It uses a sophisticated strategy made to improve performances and lower risks. It uses a multicurrency approach to avoid the dependence from a single pair performance. It is one strategy applied to 8 (for now!) different sets of currency pairs. Every set trades indipendently from the others. Every pair part of a set trades indipendently but profits are calculated globally. So if one pair is performing bad, the others will cover its loss and make profit for it. ReticoloFX has been developed to trade on two kind of sets: baskets and rings. Baskets are sets of 7 pairs all related to a specific currency. We actually developed two baskets: USD and JPY. So two ReticoloFX EAs are available actually. Baskets have great profit potentials.

Rings are sets of 3 pairs formed by all the possible crosses between 3 currencies. For example, the 3 curencies EUR, USD and CHF form 3 crosses: EURUSD, EURCHF and USDCHF. Rings are self balancing sets so have very good performances with very low risks. Actually we developed 6 sets of rings: AUD/NZD/USD, CAD/EUR/USD, CHF/EUR/USD, CHF/GBP/JPY, EUR/GBP/USD and EUR/JPY/USD.

The strategy has been developed to be a new approach to grid trading. By using an dynamic step and, most important, a multi-currency approach we solved the most important problems of that kind of trading. Here are the most important features of ReticoloFX:

  • The strategy works particularly well in high volatility markets. And year by year, month by month, week by week the Forex market is becoming more and more volatile. You won’t fear any market crash, or national Bank intervention or good/bar news. THEY ARE WELCOME! :)
  • Totally automatic. No human intervention is needed.
  • Very easy options. We reduced them to the very necessary. You won’t have to deal with difficult decisions or anything like that.

Below are the performances we’ve been able to reach after the first month of trading. Performances are

ReticoloFX Basket EAs Forward Performances

The overall picture of the current forward test is clearly visible in this screenshot from MyFxBook: +10710 pips after 1 month of trading!!

I think I was too fast, the ‘thank you for buying’ page isn’t even up yet :) Looking forward to using it very much! Thanks for the great work again! Ciao, Kim

    A message for “Nicholas Harrison”

We can’t reach you. Please provide us a good email address as all the emails we sent you, bounced back.

We can’t send you, any EA if we can’t reach you via email 😉
    Thanks!

    • Andrea Post author

Not for now. We are about to start a merchant account with ClickBank and so the opportunity to give a 60 days moneyback guarantee. But the EAs will also be more expensive as we’ll have resellers for that.

  • Leyenda

Hi, just a few observations after setting everything up. First of all, setting it up was very easy. Almost no settings, everything worked right away. I notice all currency symbols are USD. It would be nice to see the account currency there, maybe just one more setting for currency symbol?
Also, I noticed that the calculated step size based on volatility cannot be overriden. This might be needed, because EURCHF had a huge spike today (55 pips) while the normal range is no more than 9 pips over the past weeks. Therefore, step size for EURCHF is at 6 pips now, which I think is off balance with the other step sizes in the ring (49 for EURUSD and 35 for USDCHF). I would attach a screenshot, but I can’t, so please see for yourself. Also, it would be nice to see ‘how far along’ we are until the next step. So step size is 20 pips, currently we are at 18 pips or something. I know it’s fully automated, so the information isn’t really necessary, but still it would be nice.
One question about profit targets. Should the profit target be the same for all rings/baskets, or can this be optimized for each ring/basket?
One more question about these profit targets. To me, they seem rather low. If I now see average steps of 40 pips (which is 4 EUR/USD/… @ 0.01 lots), the ring/basket might reach it’s target profit after just 1 step, maybe not even opening a position on all pairs in a ring/basket. This is hardly grid trading, because it then closes all trades, and waits for an entire step before opening a new position. Can you elaborate on this?

More feedback when it’s been running for a while. Ciao, Kim

  • Leyenda

Also, each ring/basket has it’s own magic number, as you described. Is it possible to show the magic number in the info panel, so it’s easier to filter them later on? Myfxbook only shows magic numbers on closed trades, not on open ones, so I’ll have to wait days to find out which number is used for each ring/basket, so I can start doing custom analysis on them. I haven’t found a way to show magic numbers in MetaTrader. Thanks!

  • Joe

Hi Andrea, can you please advise, if all the open trades are in negative, and then a shock was introduced to market with the direction that is not in your favour, like 200-300 pips all within 5-15 mins time, what would this EA do in this instance?

    • Andrea Post author

At a certain point (higher short + 2*step) starts opening long trades. Until they become more that the shorts and start making profits. Once the profits reach the target profit it closes all the trades for that ring/basket and you bank the money :)

  • Denisa

Looking at the Basket. The basket have only negative positions, so does that means there is no real hedge in place here?

    • Paolo

Hi Denisa, the hedge on a pair takes place when the floating loss become too hgh on that pair. Another way to go is to be hedged from the vey start, opening a short and long trade at the same time. Actually this was the way ReticoloFX was implemented at first. However we discovered that the second approach (the one implemented now) is better and allows to save many costs related to the spread (when you open a long and short simultaneously you’re basically paying the spread to the broker).

      • Tomaz

        Hi,

really happy to this EA, and I have few question:

-1) What is considered as “floating loss is too high” – whatt % of EQ? (would be nice to have this setting thou)

-2) You said when loss is larger than (higher short + 2*step) EA opens trades in opposite direction. What if those trades become negative too?

-3) Are new orders opened at the same step ( 0.01 lot ) or is there a multiplier for each next order? (in my own EA’s I discovered that “power of 1.4″ works nice)

-4) What determines a dirrection of the first order on a pair?

-5) Can you explain a little bit more how Basket & Ring strategy look for correlations between all pairs involved?

        Thank you!

I realyl am happy I’ve found this place to have the opportunity to speak with developers. I really really like this :)

        • Andrea Post author

          Ciao Tomaz,
          here’re he answers:

          1) There’s no limit. But we are thinking about adding a maxumum %. Usually I don’t like that but I undestand that you may “feel better” having it 😀

          2) What the Ea does is “drawing” a price grid made of a set of price level at “step” distance. The cente of the grid is the price when you started the EA. And it does nothing in that moment. The first buy is at “initial level” + step, the first sell is at “initial level” – step. All the following buy and sell are 1 step above or below those levels. So if the price continues to go up and down without “breaking” new levels, nothing happens. If it does new buy or sell orders are triggered. This is done for each single pair part of the ring/basket and when the total value of all the orders in that ring/basket reaches the target profit it closes all those orders. That’s it.

          3) all the orders are opened with the same lot size. We don’t increase it as we are “adding” lot sizes to winning positions. We are “pyramiding” not “averaging down”. So we don’t need to use a martingale schema.

          4) explained in point 2

          5) we don’t look for correlations in this case. Baskets are simply all the pairs with USD or JPY. While “rings” are special set of pairs that are intrinsically all correlated because are made out of 3 currencies. We choose the 3 currencies so there’s a positive/negative correlation between them. But this has been made when we decided which rings to test.

I really hope that I answered all your questions and that you the strategy is more clear for you and all the other people like you.

We like this communication between us and all the people trading our strategies because that helps both in improving. We always have new ideas and suggestions from you and that makes our strategies always better.

          • Tomaz

Thank you. What I would like to have is not a %maxDD setting/stoploss. Maybe somebody would feel safer with that – but actually, this I can do manually myself. Close all and that’s it, but I know this type of trading needs some room, and eventually sooner or later comes out with a profit.

Question: I would like to know where the levels of buy/sell orders are? At least an object on the chart (small:short line on the righ side of the chart), or, if possible, setting of grid step, or grid multiplier or even manual grid setting.

Well… this is just my opinion…..

  • Mark

This EA has not yet made a profit although there were 2 updates already from developer…The EA does not close trades even when trades are in profit, I wonder how and when the EA close trades…Please advise Paolo…thanks.

    • Paolo

Hi Mark, I’m running the v1.2 and it already closed trades for a profit a couple of times. Please send an email to support if you still have problems, v1.2 works fine even if it still has a minor bug in the textual interface (it does not affect trades at all).

      • Mark

Yes Paolo, it did for me the same…guess I’m not patience enough :) it works great, thanks for your hard work…what is the correct lot size to use on $7500 account if I use all ring EAs….currently, I am running on 0.05 lot….thanks for your input…

        • Paolo

Hi Mark, thanks for your feedback. I started 2 baskets + 6 rings yesterday on a new account putting lot_size=0.01 (1 micro) and less than 24 hours later I see $153 profit and a negligible floating dd. That is impressive for sure 😮 If your starting balance is $7500 and you want to use 6 rings then your should allocate $1250 to each ring. That means trading with lot_size=0.01 (or 2 micros if you are a more aggressive trader). I’m afraid trading with 0.05 lots is too risky for now….

          • Mark

Thanks for info Paolo….I will change the lot size to 0.02 to be more safer but even at 0.05 it made me decent profit last couple of days about $460….DD is minimal to $30 to $70 at this point…:)

  • Daleen

Andrea, can you code in some function that can allow us to close all floating positions. I am testing this EA at small risk and it works great!!! I just wanted to get out now with a nice profit and stay on the side before NFP on Friday. I wanted to close all positions and this can take some time so I would like to have some button to press to get out of here!! :):)

Thanks for your great work, for the first time I believe that grid EA’s can work in the long run!! This is the first grid that is trading with the trend, what a big achievement!!!

    • Paolo

Dear Daleen, thanks for your feedback :-) Yes it is a pleasure seeing ReticoloFX in action most of the time. In other words in the last several weeks it has always locked profits soon while keeping the drawdown at very acceptable levels. I took note of your suggestion about a script for getting all open trades closed at once.

    • Mark

Don’t need to change the program code, use this script and put it on script folder of your MT4, when you want to close all positions at once, just double click on it and run it…it will close all trades at once…good luck!

      • Andrea Post author

The problem is that the EA will probably immediately open new trades. So better wait for version 1.3 tha will let you do that safely 😉 not far from releasing it.

    • Paolo

Definitely yes. I have already the baskets running and planning to add the rings soon. As always money management is key and putting new EAs running on a live account involves many factors. Currently also The DuettoFX Swing Trader EA is working very well for my live account.

  • Pradeep

    Hi Andrea & Paolo,

    Thanks for this excellent EA.
I am wondering what can be the worst case scenario? Is it that the currencies just keep moving in a tight range or with slightly increased range and we just sit with draw down and wait for any big move to close all pending trades? If yes, isn’t it almost a holy grail 😉

    Cheers!
    Pradeep

    • Paolo

Hi Pradeep, I answered a similar question yesterday in the comments. I’m quoting that reply for your convenience: The “triangle” pattern in technical analysis is well known: price ranges and the width of this range gets smaller and smaller as time passes, so that the line described by price seems included in a triangle. Typically at the end of this pattern price must “explode” in one direction or the other. An “expanding triangle” is just the opposite of what I described before: price starts oscillating within a range that gets larger and larger as time passes. This is not a scenario that happens frequently in the market. It is the worst scenario for ReticoloFX because the EA may continue opening trades in opposite directions without being able to close a set of transaction for a profit. As a matter of fact when ReticoloFX opens many trades in opposite directions it is “locking” a loss that gets larger and larger (negative floating drawdown). At this point it needs a sharp breakout in one direction or the other in order to be able to close a set of transaction for an overall profit. Of course the question is if ReticoloFX is able to wait the final breakout (that always happen sooner or later) before the floating drawdown depletes the whole account. If we stick to the suggested money management (1000 USD of balance allocated per ring/basket when trading 0.01 lots) our tests show that the probability of burning the whole account is very remote. Basically ALL baskets and rings should lose at the same time 100% of their allocated capital, while we expect at most a 30% drawdown on each basket/ring. The fact of combining baskets and rings together is a way of reducing the floating drawdown, because it is not probable that their peaks of drawdown always happen at the same time. As a matter of fact the last 5 weeks of forward testing have shown that the maximum overall floating drawdown is very tolerable considering a projected 15% monthly return.

  • Pradeep

Thanks Pablo, you have made the strategy very clear to me now. This strategy is a sure winner in times like these. Knowing you guys very well, I am sure that you and Andrea will improve the strategy even further and make it even more profitable.
    Best wishes,
    Pradeep

  • Mark

    Hi Paolo,

I’ve got a question regarding the profit/loss calculations for ring EAs…is the profit value fixed to certain amount? or it is based on your lot size? meaning that if you increase the lot size the profit value increases or it will be the same? because it seems to me that if you have higher lot size the EA will close trades in profit faster than lower lot size or am I wrong?

    Thanks :)

    • Paolo

The target is indipendent from the lot size. Example: if you put lot_size=0.03 then you should also put target=30. In other words target/lot_size should be 1000. This optimal ratio works under the assumption that the account is USD based. If you have the account based on EUR then put target=24.2 in the previous example. Ciao, Paolo

      • Mark

I see, so if you put target value lets say on lot size 0.03 to 20 instead of 30 then EAs will open and close more trades right? is it beneficial or dangerous?

        Thanks.

        • Paolo

Exactly, more trades when you reduce the ratio target/lot_size. We find that the suggested ratio=1000 is a balanced approach that works in most cases. You should perform some independent research (forward testing and comparing results over a period of months) if you plan to change this ratio. Keep us informed about your findings 😉

  • Mark

Yes, I am planning to forward test on different profit ratios and will post my results in a month…also, can I run Reticolofx with other EAs on the same account and same currencies? just want to make sure it does not interrupt my other EA’s trades on the same pairs I’m trading….thanks :)

    • Paolo

Hi Mark, thanks for keeping us updated on this experiment. You can safely run ReticoloFX with other EAs. Just keep in mind two things that are valid whenever you mix two or more EAs on the same account: 1) be sure the EAs all use different magic numbers; 2) plan your money management so to allocate a portion of the balance to each EA, otherwise you may end up overleveraged. The upcoming ReticoloFX v1.3 has the magic number published in the textual interface. A trick you can always use in order to prevent magic number clashes is to execute multiple MT4 instances that work on the same account. On each instance you only run a specific EA 😉

  • Ralph

    Hi Andrea & Paolo,
looking at the past Friday, at the USD-Basket, I can´t see any hedging-trades of the EA.
In my account e.g. a EURUSD short was opend at 1.2294.
Later, after NFP news, the pair climed up to 1.2457.
As far as I understand the logic, the EA should have opened a long trade around 1.2400 considering a step of nearly 50.
In your myfxbook demo happened the same.
Is it a bug or due to high volatility only….just wondering…is everything OK ?
    Have a nice weekend.

  • Leyenda

Hi, I was just analyzing your results on myfxbook for Reticolo, and I noticed something that might be a possible improvement. I notice your biggest drawdowns happen when there are big spikes in the market. Especially the NFP news event causes both huge profits on some rings, and huge drawdowns on others. It’s easy to see why. Additional trades are opened in the direction of the spike, which then quickly retraces, and it may take quite a while for the market to recover. I was thinking about disabling the EA’s altogether around these major news releases, but in case of profit, that would also mean closing the trades manually. It would be nice to introduce a setting that prevents additional trades to be opened, but still allows the profit taking mechanism to continue working.
Basically, on all other days, drawdown is minimal. For example, with three rings, my combined drawdown has not been more than $40 USD trading 0.01 lots. This is excellent, but drawdown doubled on Friday after the NFP. The setting I proposed keeps drawdowns lower, therefore allowing bigger lot sizes, and more profits.
Is anyone else seeing the same benefits? Please share your opinions!

  • Mark

In my opinion, it is advisable to turn off any EA on Fridays and close all trades as it is not a good day for EA trading….I have experimented this with many EAs and sadly all have failed on Fridays although they were profitable during other days…I would rather to take little loss to close all trades before Friday instead of having to deal with huge DD on that day…

  • Diddi

    Hi Paolo,
what happend when we restart mt4 because update ReticoloFX from 1.2 to 1.3.
Do ReticoloFX grab the open positions back?
Or do ReticoloFX lost the open position?

  • Tomaz

What happens if I manually close some of the pairs and keep EA running?
What happens if I change/delete global variables?

    • Paolo

Hi Tomaz, in case you close some trades manually and even detach a ReticoloFX EA from one or more charts the EAs attached to the remaing charts will continue to work and they will try to close the existing set of open trades for a profit. Changing/deleting GV is not suggested while ReticoloFX is working. You can delete them if you want to open a new demo account on the same platform and start testing again with a “fresh balance”.

      • Tomaz

        1) In case I close some positions – would EA buy/sell another position on that pair if level to do so is reached?
        2) Does “trend following” setting afect that in any way?
        3) What if EA on a pair opened 3 positions and I close 2 of them – where would the next position be?
        4) The question for GV was in case I close some positions and changing GV I can set where the next “start” is?

        • Paolo

Hi Tomaz, here are the answers:
          1) yes
          2) trend following only affects how/when new trades are opened once a set of trades is closed for a profit
          3) the EA always check the actual trades that are still opened, so it may open a new trade depending from the situation
          4) I suggest you keep GV managed by the EA only; it would require detailing the whole algorithm in order to answer this point.

  • gatowman

    Sorry,
    I do not understand this:

    target_profit (10.0)
This is the profit in the account currency. The default value is 10.00 USD when trading a microlot (lot_size = 0.01). Therefore if your account currency is not USD you should change this parameter accordingly. As an example if your account currency is EUR and EUR / USD = 1.2500 then we suggest to put target_profit = 8.0.

I have a euro account, but still target_profit to 10, is the impact on trade or just on the money management? At about 4000 € chap What exactly happens when I switch from 10 to 8? Should I do this?

    • Paolo

Hi gatowman, I suggest you put target=8 on all the ReticoloFX EAs (as long as you have lot_size=0.01 in the settings). An higher target has an impact on open trades, because they will need a bigger gain in order to be closed.

  • Andrew

    Hi
I purchased Reticolor on 25 May and despite repeated requests I still have not been sent the link to download the EAs. Can u pls fix this. Thx, Andrew

    • Paolo

Dear Andrew, the same day you made the purchase PayPal sent us an email saying that that your payment is “under review” and “You shouldn’t provide the item or service purchased until we let you know that the payment has cleared”. They haven’t yet given us the result of this “review”. Can you please check that your payment was actually processed? Thanks.

  • gatowman

    Hi Paolo,

please tell me, on my Liveaccount i have 2 Basket and all Rings, so i have 60 Trades open.
On your MyFXBook Account not, only trades from today, whats the different??
Have i a problem, something making wrong??

    Regards atowman

    • Paolo

Hi gatowman, we have about 90 trades opened currently. Markets started a reversal on last Friday, therefore we now are in a drawdown phase. Please send an email to support with some more info if you think your EAs are not working properly.

  • Leyenda

Hi, I have seen many questions and answers about the lot size versus account size, but still I feel a bit unsure. At first, in one of the earlier posts about Reticolo, you were talking about 400-500 USD per ring (@ 0.01), and a bit more for baskets (higher DD on baskets). At the moment, I am only considering the rings, so I’ll ignore baskets for now.
Later on, you mention 1000 USD per ring (@ 0.01), however, I have never seen that difference explained. Also, I am seeing considerably smaller DD’s in my own accounts, and on your accounts on Myfxbook.

In fact, the only ‘real’ drawdown (equity < starting balance), is before the first profits are closed on each ring. Looking at the other equity values, the maximum drawdown on any of the rings is 223 USD on CHF-EUR-USD (@ 0.1!). All other drawdowns are smaller. Also, since maximum drawdowns for each ring almost never occur on the same day, combining more rings on one account does not seem to have a linear effect on DD. So if one ring requires 500 USD, 2 rings do not require 1000 USD, but much less than that. In fact, summing the drawdowns on all of the rings in your myfxbook, gives a total drawdown on any given day since they started of under 400 USD, and that is using 0.1 lot size!

As usually, this is turning into a big post, so I'll wrap up. I think the 1000 USD per ring with 0.01 is way too conservative. Of course, I understand there are negative market conditions which affect the drawdown, but that will never happen on all rings at the same time, and profit on one or more rings will more than compensate for that. And of course, once we manually detect this 'expanding triangle' pattern that you mentioned earlier, we can stop the EA's on that currency from opening additional trades right?

So unless I am missing the bigger picture here, I see a huge difference between a max DD of 400 USD running 6 rings with 0.1 lot size, and your recommended account size of 1000 USD per ring with 0.01 lot size.

I hope you can explain this one more time. And yes, I do understand the part about historic results and different market conditions in the future etc. The market is not even going near any kind of consolidation phase for at least another 3-4 months, most likely longer. And if we get to that, we would all have made enough profit with Reticolo to deal with that when time comes :).

    • Paolo

Hi Leyenda, we suggest to allocate from 500USD to 1K USD of capital to each basket/ring. 500 USD may be ok only for aggressive traders and only if we get lucky with strong prolonged trends during the weeks ahead. Your considerations about combining equities are correct, but we never know what comes in the future, so better play safer. That’s why we stick to the “1K USD per EA and per microlot” rule, and we suggest doing the same to all customers. On last Friday markets began a reversal (maybe a false reversal) and we are seeing a drawdown sensible bigger than past weeks.

  • Daleen

Andrea, I am testing the EA on a few accounts, on some the EA immediately starts with buy and sell order, on some it wait, is that a bug?

    • Paolo

Hi Daleen, thx for reporting. This is not the expected behavior of ReticoloFX. Can you please send an email to support with some details about your platform and ReticoloFX version? thx.

  • Jean LeBlanc

How do I get the additional 2 ring EA’s? I bought the original 2 baskets and 6 rings on the last available day. I do believe you have a bonus of 2 ring EA’s, correct?
    Jean

  • Tomaz

    ReticoloFX Ring – TrendFollowing setting.
I had TrendFollowing setting ENABLED, and I saw few times now, EA does buy and sell at the same price. Is that supposed to be so ?

    • Paolo

No it is not. Please sned an email to support specifying your broker, type of account, build number and version of ReticoloFX you are running. Thx for your collaboration.

Hi Andrea, since yesterday Reticolo FX Baskets are running in my account at tradefort. Currently there are no winners 22 open orders and at least no winning order. I adjusted the leverage at 1000 and use 0.01 Lot per trade…So now I wnat you to tell me what happened?!?! On your myfxbooksite you see that all pos are hedged. When I look at my MT4 platform I just see a lot of orders and nothing more :(

    HELP ME

    • Paolo

Hi Marc, please send an email to support with a log of the Journal/Experts tabs of your MT4 platform. Keep in mind the first hedge is opened at a 2*step distance between buy and sell.

    • Marc

MarginCall…all positions were closed…krass^^ Your EA didn’t closed any winning trade…I’m sad about this fact abd don’t know how to handel…I have lost my funds and 118USD…thanks

      • Paolo

Hi Marc, sorry to hear that. You bought ReticoloFX on the 6th of June (5 days ago) and you got a margin call in only 3 trading days. Even if ReticoloFX was not able to close winning set of trades in the meantime, I think the real problem here is with money management. The other big problem is going live without testing at all. Testing helps traders to understand the trading logic of a robot and to discover technical issues BEFORE committing real money. On ALL our accounts that run ReticoloFX we are VERY VERY FAR from a margin call scenario.

      • Andrea Post author

        Marc,

as we wrote almost every time we wrote about ReticoloFX, money management is fundamental for that kind of trading. We stated that you should not trade more than 0.01 lots for each $500-$1000 in the account for each EA.

So if you want to trade with all 8 the EAs at the same time, you should have at least $4000/$8000 on your account. Doing that you can reach an average gain around 15%-20%/month and keep the DD as low as possible.

You had margin call, we have a DD that is actually lower than 8% our balance. Well it makes a lot of difference.

Please trade slow but safe. There’ll always be highs and lows. The key is to keep the impact of lows as low as possible 😉

      • Albert

Hi Marc, i think that you are not respect Money Management Rule and for ReticoloFX is the utmost importance, how much lots you start to trade?

I’m sure that you start whith a very big lot size, i was learned whith another similar system this hard lesson (but i was lost up to 3 differents times my balance and it’s a bit hard admit it..)

Start a fresh demo account 1 or 2 months and let it work whith MM suggestions.

    • Paolo

Hi Henry, no you cannot. Put stop_after_close=true and then change the lot size when you see the EA is flat. At that point you also need to put stop_after_close back to false.

  • cuda

hello, can you explain difference between 1.2 and 1.3b and is there another version coming out soon to hide name from broker. a trailing stop on ring pairs would be nice if possible. can you explain when ea hedges and what are the new 2 rings, pairs. thanks

  • Bego

    Dear friends,
In the MyFxBook of Jpy basket, I see, from time to time “Paniere Fx Grid”; what this mean? Is it a different EA?.
    Thanks.

  • Alan

Andrea, Paulo, I want to commend you on this EA.
This week, my VPS crashed and ForexVPS has dropped me. VPS was down at open of market on Sunday night, and it is still down as we speak on Monday night. Reticolo put in 20 trades on JPY basket, and now they are running loose in the market.
I have now installed the Reticolo JPY basket EA on my terminal on my laptop.
I could hardly believe that the EA just kept managing my open trades–different computer, different MT4 installation. I’ve never seen such a professionally built EA.
This should be an encouragement to everyone who has bought your products!
    Thank You!
    Alan

    • Andrea Post author

      Thanks Alan.
Yes we made it so that it is “trouble” resistant. At least as much as we can.
Thanks for your comment we really appreciate that :)
      Andrea

    • Paolo

Hi Alan, thanks for your appreciation :-) Being able to switch our EAs from one PC to another seamlessly is surely a nice feature that can have many advantages, like managing an “emergency scenario” like you described. However please keep in mind you now have the same EAs potentially running on two machines (your VPS and your laptop) and they have no way of being aware of each other. Therefore as soon as your VPS comes back alive you must make sure that ReticoloFX is running only on the VPS OR on your laptop, and not on both of them. Otherwise you’d probably see undesired duplicate orders.

  • Mark

Absolutely true..margin call doesn’t happen if you have proper money management….there is always DD but how to manage it is all depends on you and your greed…if you become greedy then you will lose…this business (Forex) is the most wonderful and exciting business I have ever known, you gotta respect the market and if you do, market will respect you back…too many newbies and new traders lose money because they don’t really have the true understanding of this business…keep it slow and steady, you will succeed if you can control your emotions and greed….and no, you can’t be rich over night in this business, otherwise everyone would be rich now by opening a small account and firing an EA like Reticolofx or similar on it…EAs help you make money in this business only and if only you know how to make them work for you and be able to manage your money properly…and the last and most important think: NEVER GIVE UP!

  • Alan

    Hi Andrea, Paulo
Just want to congratulate you on the quality of this EA!
Yesterday, ForexVPS dropped me. For 24 hours I couldn’t connect to my VPS. Reticolo has 20 positions open on the JPY basket.
I installed Reticolo on an MT4 on my laptop, and even though it was a diffferent computer and a different MT4 installation, Reticolo recognized all of my open positions and continued to manage them!
Then, I signed up with another VPS company, and installed a fresh MT4, installed Reticolo JPY basked, and again, it has taken over management of the trades.
This is brilliant! Thank you for all of the effort you have put into this EA! (and all of your other EAs and indicators)
    Kind Regards,
    Alan

  • Kevin

    Hi Andrea,
Can you please post some 5-year backtests? If it crashes the account at some point, at least we will know so that we can withdraw profits regularly.
    Thanks

    • Paolo

Hi Kevin, honestly we don’t have backtests that go so back in the history as we don’t think they are so relevant. ReticoloFX has been conceived looking at the future and at the extreme volatility conditions that are becoming a rule in the markets. Keep in mind our tests on the last couple of years show a dd within the 30% threshold when combining more ReticoloFX EAs. Therefore we do not expect to crash our accounts with it. However withdrawing profits regularly can be a good option for the more conservative trader. Of course this is true for any strategy.

  • Carlo

    Hi Andrea.
I have recently bought the ReticoloFX and I have two questions.
    a. Which is for each pair the event that ‘triggers’ the start of an order in the ReticoloFX ? Is it completely random or is it triggered by any event related to an indicator ? I am talking about the very first order, not the following ones.
    b. What is in your experience the ‘average’ time from the start of a set of orders to its completion (i.e. profit target reached) ?
Thanks for your valuable fedback and keep up with your good job,
    Carlo.

    • Paolo

Ciao Carlo, ReticoloFX does not rely on indicators at all with the exception of ATR which is used for calculating the grid step. When the EA is attached for the first time to a chart it keeps in memory the initial price P and then it enters its first long trade if price gets above P+step, or its first short trade if price gets below P-step. Set of trades are closed for a profit from a few hours to a few days. The current average time for Basket_JPY is around 4 days. You can give a look at this kind of statistics on our public MyFxBook pages (the links are on the left column of the home page). I wish you success trading with ReticoloFX 😉

  • Rene

    Hi Andrea and Paolo,
I am trading with 2 baskets and 6 rings and have money management as recommended. There is quite a large draw down on my account, especially on the USD basket.
We have all heard about the impending instability in Europe with the Greek elections on Sunday 17th June. Do you recommend to close all the ReticoloFX trades and take the losses before the turmoil breaks out — or do you think that ReticoloFX will handle the possible gap at the start of the trading next Monday well and we do not need to worry too much?

    • Paolo

Hi Rene, many different things may happen when the markets open again on Sunday, and they may be either favourable or unfavourable for ReticoloFX. Andrea has just written a post in this regard: http://pimpmyea.com/high-volatility-alert-and-countermeasures/
Putting on_hold=true and stop_after_close=true is the best choice for the conservative trader. However keep in mind we cannot know if a volatility spike could actually help ReticoloFX to close its current trades for a profit more easily when those options are left set to false. As usual we have the trade-off “potential profits vs potential risk” that each individual trader must face.

  • Tomaz

    Q: ReticolloFx ring v 1.4
Why is level of next buy/sell – moving up and down few pips with price action? Isn’t this a fixed level (based on Step, of course) ?

    • Paolo

Hi Tomaz, the previous version kept in memory Ask+step as the next_buy_level and Bid-step as the next_sell_level, with the Bid/Ask registered when the EA was launched the first time. This approach required the use of many Global Variables across many ReticoloFX EAs and many currency pairs. The approach implemented in the v1.4 is much more robust since it relies only on current trades. Therefore you are free to switch ReticoloFX from one machine to another very easily. However now the first_buy_level depends on the entry price of the first short, and the first_sell_level depends on the price of the first long. We also consider (Ask-Bid) in these calculations, that’s why you see those levels oscillating a bit: they move with the spread. Once the first hedge is entered you’ll not see anymore those lines moving, because the next calculations do not involve the spread anymore.

    Hello Paolo,
initially it was a simple system with few settings to adjust, now it is too much, for example: hold_on true! Do you have to do it, or the system also works to false, I can not change every few days 32 pairs, please make only the necessary things adjusted, there is too much and confusing for the beginner. Please let the system is simple!

    • Paolo

Hi gatowman, thanks for your feedback. We strive to reach a balance among the many requests from customers. We are going to make “on_hold” feature simpler to use in the next version. Ciao, Paolo

  • gatowman

    hi paolo,
please, what happens if I accidentally a pair of manually closing a ring can act, the system then the remaining 2 pairs still in the plus and trimming process?
Similarly, in the USD basket, what happens when I close a pair manually?
    Thank gatowman

    • Andrea Post author

The EA trades with the pairs that are open. If for example you have 3 pairs per ring and you close one it’ll use the two remaining pairs to trade. The EA in reality can trade even by itself on one pair only and it works pretty well other than can remain stucked for months in particularly ranging periods. With more pairs that is less likely to happen and in worst situations it can take some weeks before getting out of a range.

The problem is with open orders. If you have open orders for the pair you decide to close they won’t be managed so you should close them manually.

  • Andrew

    Hi
Just wondering, and keeping in mind good MM rules.
When our account has grown, say doubled, or we want to add funds, what is the process for changing the lot siz and take profit settings?
Do we need to let each basket and ring close, so no open trades, before changing settings?
Also, since DDs can happen, is it possible to have an option like Crescendo has to close all trades at a chosen %DD level, say 30%? (having been margin called once for a very substantial loss I never want to experience that again.)
I am really impressed so far with Reticolor and the support you guys give, but then again i started on a beautiful trending day so need to be realistic.

    • Andrea Post author

Yes, it’d be better if you wait for the trades to be closed before increasing the lot size.
About the max DD setting like Crescendo it can be done but actually it’s not in our plans as most of the times is counter productive. So we are still deciding if add it or not.

  • Carlo

    Andrea, Paolo,
a very simple question yet something I cannot understand.
What is the meaning of the ‘progress’ bar that the EA draws in the upper side of the info rectangle ? According to which event is it incremented ? Does it have any useful purpose for the EA user ?
    Thanks in advance, Carlo.

  • gatowman

    Hello Paolo,
For weeks my USD basketball is not closed with profit. The swap is getting bigger, the swap included in earnings with the system?

    Greeting gatowman

  • Norman

First of all, I’d just like to say how impressed I am with the product and its innovative approach to trading the Forex market.

I’m trading both baskets and they’ve been in considerable drawdown for a little while now. I think it might prove more profitable in the long term, that in certain circumstances a basket would close all its positions in loss after becoming range-bound. This would reset the starting point of the grid and enable the basket to start capturing profits again, potentially even if it continued to remain bound within the current range. Taking an example, EURUSD is currently trapped within a range of almost 400 pips (next buy at 1.27900, next sell at 1.24004) but its step size is only 44 pips, hence profits could easily be captured even if it continued to swing within this range. Obviously I’m simplifying things to consider just one of the eight pairs, but potentially the loss incurred could be recovered in a shorter time than the time it would take for the basket to break out in the first place. Have you considered anything along these lines?

On a related matter, could you please publish again the script to close all currently open positions, as the link you provided previously has expired? Ideally, it would be good to have separate scripts for the USD and JPY baskets.

Many thanks and keep up the good work :-)

    • Andrea Post author

      Hi,
I just sent you an email to the link to the page and the scripts.
We are working on version 1.5 with updates on the strategy to dramatically reduce the number of open trades and optimize the strategy performance as well.
      Cheers,
      Andrea
